Back on topic: my garage doors have metal rods that slide into the track. You can put a padlock on the rod, making it impossible for the doors to be opened unless you can remove the padlock.
What are you worried about? People getting into the garage, and then having entry into the house? Yours cars being stolen? Bikes? Tools?
