As mentioned above...the ability to turn the reversing guidelines as well as 3D objects that are in your reversing path are located along the left side of the iDrive screen. Scroll down and activate them...probably by pressing down on the controller knob (you will see a red check mark illuminate if you want them on). You can do this for both the 3D warning as well as the guidelines. In the pic below, the guidelines can be seen and verified by the red check mark in the selection box to turn the on. The 3D objects can NOT be seen because it is not activated...and that too can be seen when you look at the selection box...there's no red check mark:
