I test drove a 2014 640i and a 2015 550i. To be honest, I didn't see a huge difference between the acceleration in the v8 compared to the I6. But the power did feel smooth and quick, and the exhaust note in sport mode was nice.
I drove mostly alone in my 640i, and the engine tune has made this car a blast to drive.
