Having owned four E28 535i, with two still in the stable, I agree it's a tractor motor that keeps on going. But the E34 525i debuted the M50 here in the USA and the M50TU has exceeded the durability of the old M30, runs better, requires no valve adjustment, and will simply go 300k or better with literally no engine repairs. My new favorite and I have an E34, two E39s, two E82s, and an E90 with that same basic engine.
