i'm no tire expert, but if I saw this I wouldn't necessarily be concerned of a catastrophic blowout, but I bet the tire compound itself has lost some quality. kind of like an old crappy tennis ball or something that is basically useless if you're used to new, decent tires. I had a set do this and I noticed much worse performance on the track. Needing grip when it's a safety factor would by my biggest concern (but granted is rarely optimized for all situations with a single set of tires, no matter how new, what brand, etc... it's just nice to give yourself an edge if you can!)
