My dealer has been incredible throughout this ordeal. They provide a 650i Gran Coupe with x-drive as a loaner which I drove for more than a month. Without them, my confidence in BMW's would have really been "shaken".
Assuming I'm getting the straight story, BMW is aware of this problem. They claim that the fix would shorten the life of the transmission.
Fortunately for me, the dealer had in stock a CPO 2016 M5 which had been a BMW executive car (8000 miles, CPO warranty, but eligible for new car (0%) financing). They made me a very favorable deal which I gladly accepted. The M5 is not as "pretty" as the 650 GC, but very cool in it's special M way.
