I had the same issue. I don't think this is an oil issue. Your crankcase valve vents might be clogged like mine. I would change those out. Once I did I got the add quart more so around 2500+.
As for the original post I use the oem oil and i change my oil every 2.5k-3k miles. I drive rather aggressive and have stage 2 tune fyi.
