I change my oil once/year whether it needs it or not.

Coming from the Motorcycle World, you will find that this is the single most discussed, and disagreed upon topic.
I also believe that if you rarely if ever encounter temps at or below freezing, 0w is not necessary, and 5w is fine. And on the top end, if you don't see 100 deg F often or at all, 30w works. Everything else is personal preference.
