From what I understand, iDrive 5+, you can enable it as an app ... anything before that is a retrofit from something like Bimmertech via their Apple Carplay MMI. As far as I know, neither require coding. I have NBT 4 and just ordered their MMI. Hasn't shipped yet as they are backordered.
