Hmm, I'm not sure how one comes to conflating wearing a hat/cap/beanie with sleeping with the same sex.
But unless you have a full head of hair...or wear a
man bun and stay 99% of your life indoors where you're not affected by the sun or cold temperatures...wearing a hat/cap/beanie protects your head from the sun (in summer) and keeps you warmer (in the winter) because a knit hat helps in retaining body heat.
But again, if one has a full head of hair and rarely goes outside or lives where it's overcast most of the time...and the temps rarely drop below 50° F...and it rarely rains...then wearing a head covering may not be something one does. Still don't see the correlation with intimacy with the same sex, though.
Perhaps if I had a cap that looked like this...I could see why same sex proclivities might be perceived:
