US registration of a Canadian car can be simple. From a Porsche experience, you may need to write into BMW North America corporate for certificate of emissions and and safety.

Once they submit some type of form to you, you present it at the border and upon registration.

The process is a lot more straightforward because North America cars are typically manufactured to comply to all three local markets and to conform to the strictest emissions (California) and safety (NHSTA) requirements.
