I'm in a 2017 530i loaner right now with the base system. Only 4500 miles on the car and the woofers already sound blown, it's a truly horrible sound system.
I have the B&O on my '14 650i coupe and it sounds good. Nothing amazing at low volumes but it hits decently hard at high volumes and most importantly can go LOUD without distortion. I made only a few EQ tweaks to get it where I liked it (and turned off the extended mode).
The B&O system hits just hard enough where it's not worth the hassle to install a sub box/amp. I can't speak for the base system on the 6, but there haven't been many complaints that I've seen on the forums. I wouldn't stress it if you can't find a used 6 with B&O included, although I hunted for it specifically. The 2015 models all have the HK system as base, but I could never find out if it was a true upgrade or just rebadged speaker grills.
