At this moment it seems like a very weird design decision. So sedans will get grills and lights in one and SUV’s will get the same but with an added vertical grill on the middle. That would be so strange.

Agreed, the kidneys suit a sedan more than an suv since they would be more proportionate and also directly link bank to the type of car this style of grill was originally used on.
