If you spill just a tiny bit of a sugary drink like coffee or coke it does a number on it. My buttons get stick from time to time. If it is electrical which is more what it sounds like you definitely want them to look at it. Swapping them out is pretty easy, but the part is expensive. If you have the original warranty it should be a no brainer. If you are under the extended warranty they may weasel out of it because it's not covered.
