I had the restraint system message/warning popup once... A few days before, I disconnected the steering wheel airbag. That's the only logical thing I could put it down to.
I called out BMW Emergency - the guy came out with his fault reader device and reset the error/code. Issue went away.
Have you made any changes to the car?
