they now break out every individual variation of everything. when it use to be just e46 for the coupe, sedan, convertible, wagon it only burned one number. now they are giving everything its own internal designation along with really long badges on the back. its a lil redundant now. example is f10 is the 5er while f11 is the wagon, f12 is the 6er coupe, f13 is the vert, f14 is gran coupe. and then they skipped calling the m3/4 the f30/32 and skipped right to the f80/82. now mini is included in there as well since they share platforms. i think we are already up to the g30 (next gen 5er)
F0x - 7 series/5GT
F1x - 5/6 series/X5/X6
F2x - 2 series/X3/X4
F3x - 3/4 series
F4x - X1
F5x - Mini
F8x - M

They still haven't used the F6x, F7x or F9x numbers, but perhaps the jump to G-series signifies a change in electronics and technologies as well so they wanted to differentiate from the F-series.
