The original owner's depreciation hit is a big factor in my buying decision because it's money in the bank for me up front. My own depreciation hit is no factor at all in my decision. Whether it's worth $10k or $20k in 5 years has a real impact on my ownership cost - or my "price" - but I did not buy it to "make" that $10k on my investment. I bought it to drive it, and am just happy I have a nearly new car with a $115,850 sticker that I can drive for only $58,400.
