I saw the this series compete at Riverside International Raceway in Riverside CA https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rivers...tional_Raceway the acclaimed road circuit. If memory serves me, the cars were identically prepared Porsche 911 Carrera RSR race cars or the IROC Z28 Camaro race cars, with twelve hand selected drivers from all aspects of professional motorsport....it was FUN.

The Masters Kart racing at Bercy was also great to watch especially in the early days with Senna Prost and Schumacher competing.

There have also been various versions of "Race of Champions".

which have been shown on UK TV over the years but in rather a low key fashion as opposed to prime time viewing.
Still...always fun to watch but never really devised as an absolute way of showing who is the fastest driver.
Schumacher and Vettel competed as the team for Germany for many years.
Last run in 2019...with Vettel still competing - he loves the event.
Masters Kart racing: with Prost and Senna head to head.
