First, congrats on the new house.
Second, all it takes one little root and those things will sprout. I would have done: a) till the ground, and b) thoroughly sprayed some vinegar.
You have a nice big yard. I would think about privacy- a nice vinyl fence will look good. If not vinyl, check out some photos of redwood fencing.
I built a lot of raised beds in the last 4 years. Bought the stones from Lowe’s. Attached are the photos of my backyard project. I am not a professional. I’m an RN and did this project whenever I had days off.
