I didn't know that Mercedes was the first pit so that would have likely meant HAM would have been last anyway or somewhere near the end - don't see how HAM would got in a favourable position with the train of cars entering the pit lane and without causing some sort of collision.
The only difference I could have seen is that HAM wouldn't have had to work as hard to make up positions and there would have been a higher possibility to even win the race, we've seen HAM do this many times.

F1.com's interview with Toto and HAM could not have been more different; Toto stated it was the correct call and he would do it again; HAM said they made a mistake and should have pitted with the others....
