I have the night vision on my m6 and I rarely ever use it - sometimes I turn it on just to show a passenger but that's about it. Although I'm not sure, I believe the sensor powers a warning for pedestrians and deer/animals at night, which has been slightly helpful on a few occasions.

You've never been stuck in dense fog on a dark mountain road where you can't even see one car length ahead of you. It got me home that night. So, yeah... it's OK by me. But yeah, it is hella expensive as options go.
