I heard that before but then imagine if it was true for all X-drive models one could not or should not be able to choose certain M-Sport package / wheels combination. And here you have a lot of Xdrive models being sold. There are for example some wheels such as the 416 Styling (Vielspeiche) and the Styling 668 for the F30 and F36 models where are 4x wheels are the same:

8x18 225/45/18 - ET 34

The same wheels are then 225/50/18 for the F34.

BMW recommends this setup for WINTER - regardless of Xdrive or non-Xdrive models. Obviously for traction purposes in cold and icy conditions you will be better off.

For the rest you will see for F30, F32, F34 and F36 series most if not all 19" and 20" wheels are by default mixed (225 front - 255 rear) and this applies to both RWD as well as AWD models.
