For the screen installation, I remember following a YT video. It's not complex but a bit lengthy (give it at least an hour).

I did not install an aftermarket camera as I already had a 360 camera. Still, I remember that it took me many trials and errors to configure the access to the OEM camera system. Basically, to trigger the Android system to switch back to iDrive (and its camera view). I never figured out how to activate the camera system when pressing the camera button, only when switched to reverse. The iDrive's resolution also looked funky.

My biggest drawback was that the CarPlay resolution was not native to the screen. It is a blurry, upscaled mess. I tried connecting the Carkit dongle, and that refresh rate and resolution looked terrific! But then you lose the steering wheel controls and the iDrive controller. They had beta support at the time for physical controls, but Android and iDrive did not cooperate in successfully recording the presses in the learn mode. Perhaps it is better now!

I am a software engineer and also a bit of a perfectionist. The system is not for me. I played with it for several weeks and returned it. I was happy for years with an MMI box (press 3 to switch between iDrive and CarPlay). If I were craving a bigger screen now, I would highly highly recommend a Linux screen instead and wouldn’t bother with that Android crap.
