I agree with you to an extent. One of my options is "self-insuring" and just keep the money in a CD and HOPE nothing happens to the car. But the thing is any amount of research will tell you that things can and do go wrong with the V8s...especially after 60k miles. The warranty companies know this as well, hence the high prices. I know the N63TU is better than the N63 but thank goodness I had a warranty on my 2011 550i. Kept getting drivetrain malfunction messages shortly after 60k. After 3 trips to the dealership, the problem was finally fixed by replacing all the ignition coils under warranty
