think of it like this:
Just numeric model (ie 330): for the everyday leasee that just wants a badge
M badged car with more than one number after (ie M340, M550): you want m styling on a more performance oriented car)
M3 (top of the 3er lineup now): want that S designated motor
M3CS: you want something more exclusive to separate yourself from every other M3 in Beverly Hills
Audi and Mercedes did this years ago. i cant believe you guys are surprised by this.
Audi has had the Sline for many years and AMG packages for mercs for a long time.
Bmw finally decided that the cars just below the M3/M5 etc could be sold with msport trim only and they are able to charge more. Since the take on msport models for these is greater than sportline, lux, etc.. they are maximizing profits this way.
