If you want the BMW extended warranty, you must buy it before the base warranty expires (either by time or mileage). I recently bought the extended warranty on my fully-loaded 2014 M6 vert, and here's quotes/info from about 6 months ago (not sure if they've increased prices or not).

Suggest you contact your dealer first... if you have a good SA, give him the VIN# and he can pull a "Warranty Vehicle Inquiry" report from BMW. This will confirm that your car is eligible and also show the wholesale prices from BMW on all the various levels of coverage (I have a relationship with a great SA and he gave me a copy of my report even though they're not supposed to hand it over).

As you probably know, there are three levels of BMW coverage - PowertrainPlus, Gold and Platinum (see attached brochure for coverage). Also, they have a variety of different mileage/time extensions for each level, as noted below.

Here's the full list of quotes and coverages which were available for my 2014:

Powertrain at 60 months/70k miles - $2,416
Gold at same - $3,626
Platinum at same - $4,082
Powertrain at 60 months/100k miles - $2,690
Gold at same - $4,080
Platinum at same - $4,590
Powertrain at 72 months/70k miles - 2,870
Gold at same - $4,383
Platinum at same - $4,952
Powertrain at 72 months/100k miles - $3,210
Gold at same - $4,950
Platinum at same - $5,590
Powertrain at 84 months/70k miles - $3,270
Gold at same - $5,050
Platinum at same - $5,720
Powertrain at 84 months/100k - $3,960
Gold at same - $6,200
Platinum at same - $7,030

I purchased my extended service contract/warranty from Century BMW in Spartanburg, South Carolina where I've purchased cars from (not far from the ///M performance center They do a straight markup of $250 over the wholesale costs from BMW noted above, which seems fair IMO. Maybe another dealer would do it at cost with a great relationship but you can buy it from any dealership anywhere (completely online/email). Just be sure you ask about sales tax - SC didn't charge me any tax or other fees besides the nominal markup. I believe I've seen a post that a BMW dealership in Maryland also gives great deals without any sales tax as well, so shop around.
