Do you live near a track?
I was a sprinter and took me a while to figure it out. Once I stopped doing hilly road races and moved to crits, my results improved. After I started racing on the track, my crit skills really improved. Racing on the track essentially hones your tactics, experience, and fitness for the last 5 laps of a crit. Can't recommend it enough. It's also a lot of fun with the various events you need to learn.
And nothing sounds better that a set of deep carbon wheels echoing off the side boards.
