Cool BMW NA Launch Event: 2014 M6 Competition Package (Exhaust Clips Included)

BIMMERPOST NEWS
BMW NA Launch Event: 2014 M6 Competition Package (Exhaust Clips Included)
22
COMMENTS

Although the focus of the BMW NA Launch Event we attended was the 4 Series Coupe and new X5, there were also a few M5 and M6 equipped with Competition Package for us to test out. And flog it we did.

The M5/M6 Competition Package both include a Competition Exhaust System.

Keep in mind that the Competition Package Exhaust is not the same system as the titanium M Performance Exhaust which will be coming for the M5 and M6 (see our preview clips and details). The Competition Exhaust is positioned between the stock exhaust and the M Performance Exhaust.

The Competition Package Exhaust accomplishes its sportier and louder sound (compared to factory) by having its baffles pulled from the muffler. There are no power gains nor flow changes, but it does sound good.

Here's a look and listen at the 2014 M6 coupe with Competition Package, including exhaust clips.

BMW M6 Competition Package

The M5 and M6 Competition Package includes:

• Power increase by 11kW (15HP) to 423kW (575 HP)
• Stiffer stabilizer (anti-roll) bars
• Stiffer and lower suspension (shocks and springs) (10mm lower then standard M5/M6).
• Stiffer front axle bushings
• Active M Differential with a unique tune for the competition package for improved traction
• New hydraulic rack-and-pinion steering with the M-specific Servotronic function with a more direct programming to improve agility during cornering
M Dynamic mode (MDM) of DSC tuned with higher thresholds of intervention
• New 20" M light alloy wheels (not equipped on this M6)
• Sport exhaust with black chrome tips.

The M Ceramic Brakes are a separate option.

See full Competition Package details at: http://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=842219

For comparison the M Performance Exhaust fitted on a Gran Coupé. It just sounds ridiculously glorious, IMO one of the best sounding M6's so far!!

I usually find myself disappointed in videos that showcase how a car sounds if the car isn't accelerating quickly or revving to the higher reaches of the tach, but maaan this sounds great even at low speeds.

That bark the exhaust lets out cornering at low speeds around 1:23 was particularly nice if you ask me.

I would still really like to hear this car accelerate quickly and rev more though, haha.

You expected a car's exhaust to sound good and life like over an iphone speaker? Sounds good to me on real desktop speakers.

No expectations. I've watched many many exhaust vids from this device, and this was the first time I decided to comment on it.

Anyway, I hope those who purchase the comp pack are satisfied with that sound!

I sure hope there is a great sounding exhaust like that on the M4 or at least an option. I find myself revving the engine on M3 often just to get more sweet sounds.

Actually pretty sure that Akropovic makes the M-Performance exhaust. In fact, I believe it is identical except with BMW branding on the tips. The Akra stamp is apparently on the underside of the cans too.

If so, that's kind of awesome.

Can't wait for the M Perf Exhaust to drop in the US.

That's correct. You can see the stamp if you look carefully in our pics here

Added a small gallery.

The Competition Package lowers the car a perfect amount IMO.

Right on! That car loos just about PERFECT! I do however like how the H&R works particularly well on the M6 though. Before I sold the M5 you could see how much more perfectly they lowered the car. Not sure why so much more so on the M6 but they did.

Honestly, if I were to get the M6 competition pkg. I would have to agree with you on the look. I would likely leave it as is.
