Fifth Gear's Jason Plato Reviews 2013 M6 Convertible (F12)
16
COMMENTS

In the latest episode of Fifth Gear, Jason Plato has a go in BMW's flagship convertible - the F12 M6 Convertible, boasting 560hp / 501 lb-ft torque from its twin turbo V8 S63Tu motor, but weighting in at 4,530 pounds.

Plato praises the power delivery and sound from the new S63Tu based powertrain. He achieves 0-62mph in 4.3 seconds for the M6 convertible in his test.

Although the car weighs in at 4,530 pounds, it never feels like it to according to Plato. There's a bit of understeer in high speed cornering, but that can be somewhat alleviated by more aggressive throttle application, albeit resulting in a harsh transition from understeer to oversteer. Overall, Plato feels the M6 is a great driver's car which delivers really good fun.

The review starts at 7:07 of the episode.

Probably the one of THE best convertibles currently available on the market. Great performance and to me, best looking in its class.

The shots of the front end make it look really, really good. And I'm surprised he didn't mention the speaker-produced noise when talking about how it sounds.

The m6 doesn't have active sound only the m5 does.

Fast, luxurious, drop top, not insanely expensive, what's not to like?

Sorry, but untrue.

The M6 also uses active sound technology.

I don't know what the mechanic is basing his statement on, but I confirmed with a BMW official at the M6 press drives event that it does.

Many BMW models now use it (M5, M6, M135i) and I'm sure more will in the future

Stunning car and clearly I'd love one active sound or not, and I wouldn't swap it for 6 x i30s... Would anyone??

Still missing a dedicated halo car and that seems all the more prominent now Audi are talking about the R10

beautiful car

Pictures don't do the front end justice, but it is a real beauty in person. I wish it had as much leg room as the 3 or the 1 series (it's less than both), but otherwise the perfect convertible.

Shouldn't they change the name of the show to 6th gear?

One of the more favorable reviews and well executed. It was thrilling to see the car really put through some paces. Having driven both cab and coupe I settled on the coupe for cost but more importantly performance and feel. They do feel different albeit not much. I feel more comfortable thrashing the coupe than the cab. Seems to hold itself together more. That's the best I can come up with now. Squeaking brakes, snapping from speakers and oil pumps aside, still a great car and I love it.
