I wouldn't mind a launch control button in missile launch style. a little red button protected by a plastic cover somewhere, so that people buying it just because its the most expensive BMW don't accidentally hit it.

But I also think BMW wants it to be a little complicated so people don't go doing it at every stop light...

Way more easy than that confusing sport mode - DTC - M1 - praise God. And there should be a warning on the dash saying why it doesn't activate, like "engine not warm enough for LC" or "Can't use LC during break-in period".

That been said, that's a really quick time without LC given the conditions!

I've been saying this for so long! What's with these overly complex hoops I have to jump through to activate a simple feature? I think Porsche does it best for manual cars, just press a single button, and I know the new Viper has a Launch Control button on the steering wheel that lets you jump straight into it. There are a few other cars that get it right but so many of them make you press this, hold that, switch into some mode...by that time the guy you lined up next to will be long gone sooo what's the point of launch control? I guess I shouldn't care so much since launch control is useless on my car, but it seems like another example of automakers thinking they know better than the people who actually paid to own the car.

As for the comments about the M6's 0-60 time possibly being in the 3s...was there ever any doubt? The F10 M5 has been clocked under 4 seconds (Motor Trend got 3.7) so the M6 should be at least a tenth quicker than that. Is it a GT-R killer? No, of course not.

Eco Viii had the best launch control with a Sean Ivey tune... Held the revs at 5500 and u feathered/burned the Act cluth disc...the sound was awesome!

I'm not sure of the exact number for the s63 but most turbochargers can compensate for pressure differentials up to ~ 8,000 ft. altitude.

I'm just guessing but it seems like BMW doesn't want to encourage drag racing (at least while the car is under warranty lol).

My friend blew out a rear end on his M and the first data they pulled off the log was the exact number of times he used launch control. They then used this info to deny a warranty claim.

I think BMW did a really good job with this M6. I think it only weighs about 300 more lbs than an M3, which is somewhat remarkable. They shaved like 50lbs off the brakes by using carbon fiber. And , that 50lbs is from the most important part: unsprung weight.

I have no doupts that the M6 will run consistent mid 3 second 0 to 60 runs. It's a true super car (with comfy seats!).

HAHA mine also does it! Either over spins when rpm to high or wheels grip too much then hops around! LOL! Ive had best results at 3100rpm.

I wish someone would tell these guys about the M1 and M2 buttons, pre program them and then you dont have to switch off everything manually before launch.

Exactly. If you don't know half of this stuff, why become an automotive journalist. And then spend 4 mins on a video they could have shown in under 1?

Either way, they said they were going to show the new times with LC activated on the next episode.

Far from it. The S63tu is a great motor, but it simply doesn't deliver the power to the ground or with the same continuous pull as a GTR. People say the GTR is heavy, M5/M6, even more so.

I don't want to start an other debat but member DreamerM6 seems to have been lucky quite a few times against 3 differents 2012 GT-Rs, I'd like to have your opinion on this!

I just speak from my experience owning a 13 GT-R and a 13 M5. Both are blindingly fast, but built with a different purpose. No way the M5/M6 is faster than a 12+ GT-R.

If you take a look at my baseline prior to modding the GT-R, it put's out a significant amount of power to the wheels, and it's lighter.

The M6 is lighter than the M5...
Also, the '12 GTR has 530hp compared to 545hp for the '13 models, right? The GTR has an almost 3900 Lb. curb weight to the M6 coupe being around 4244 lb.
The M6 is "rated" at 560hp but many have been discovering that BMW have been under-rating their HP figures and it seems that many are closer to the 600hp number - taking into account percentage loss etc. after dyno runs..
From a dig, I can see the advantage going to the GTR but from a roll (40 or 50mph) I don't think the '12 GTR has the advantage.
There is no disputing the raw and amazing power of the GTR but it seems there have been recent disputes to how well the M6 coupe can handle itself, when up against the '12 GTR - not on a track of course
Bottom-line both cars are in different segments so you can't really compare them 100% but from the few vids of M6 coupe vs GTR that are out there, it's not too shabby for the M6...
