The just announced M6 Gran Coupe [official details/photos] comes next summer to compete with the Mercedes CLS63 AMG. Until now, the CLS63 has really had no direct competition in terms of a car that closely matches its size, styling, performance, and segment.
Now that the CLS63 has some competition, we've put together this comparison of specs and photos for your reference. We don't yet have final physical specs for the M6 Gran Coupe, but we've used the 6 Series Gran Coupe exterior dimensions and took a good guess as to the M6 Gran Coupe's weight.
Physical Specs Comparison (figures taken from 6 Series Gran Coupe).

All numbers aside, I think I prefer the aesthetics of the gran coupe more.

M6GC hands down.
The sound of the (any) AMG is insane though.

If it weren't for those ugly ass bug-eye tailights on the CLS63...
But the CLS63 is a torque beast! That's the only advantage I see the CLS63 having over the M6(GC). |

Still many things to see but as of now and for me It's the Mb who takes the lead.
You should know that with the performance package it pulls the 0-60 down to 3.8 sec. Also ive been lucky enough to ride in one of each of these (Nor the M or the AMG of course) but in a CLS and 6 GC and general quality seems higher in the CLS for me. Aaand... um, yeah; my company pays me 1000$ extra a month for carrying a leasing MB as a marketing strategy, that might also make a difference LOL. |

Very hard and close choice to make!
Front end: CLS63. (M6 GC is identical to M6 coupe but CLS has a unique front end) Side profile: Can't choose. I love M6 GC's roofline but looks more sedan-like than CLS. CLS is more coupe-like and proportions are excellent, but I don't like the drooping line. Rear end: M6 GC. I dont particularly like CLS lights. Interior: M6 GC. Whereas exterior looks more sedan-like the interior truly stands out from BMW line-up. CLS interior is nice too though. As I said very hard call to make, both are amazing machines. Although BMW seems to be quite a bit lighter.

I like the mean lines of the AMG, but the M overall is the better car. Gotta say though, Benz is slowly getting better with interior fit and finish. Benz < Audi < BMW.

CLS63 for me. When BMW puts proper brakes on an M car, then I might change my mind.

They're both very beautiful cars, no doubt. The rear swoop and pinched backend on the Mercedes gives it a bit more of an elegant, classic feel while the M6GC is a bit more modern looking. I'm sure I would be happy to have either, though my eyes are set on the M4 coupe. Am I wrong in thinking that the M6GC is going to be significantly more money than the CLS63 AMG though?

You have to realize that the very purpose of building a brand is so that you can command higher prices for your product. It automatically builds value in the mind of the buyer. You can't fault them for taking advantage of the brand they've built with decades of hard work. Objectively speaking though, yes I think the Mercedes is the winner here. That said, the BMW will still sell like crazy. Also - let's be honest - in this price range most buyers aren't concerned with pinching pennies.

The M6 GC is a winner.
The mercs styling is all very messy .. too very much look at me im a 4door sedan coupe with an obnoxious body surafce . The 6er GC looks soo good on the road you'de mistake it for a 2 door 6er. honestley photo's dont do justice to a 6er unless you see one .. M6 GC takes my pick by a huge margin. |

the 6GC def looks more like a performance oriented vehicle over the Merc.
