Standard Sound System

Has anyone heard the standard sound system in the 2013 640i? There's a dealer in my area has a 640iGC with all the options I want except premium sound. I'm thinking about getting it but I wanted to see if anyone on the forum had the standard system (or heard the system) and what you thought about it.

Thanks

I have it on my 650i.

I think it's more than fine, although I'm not an audiophile.

I've heard the premium sound, and I think the system looks better than it sounds.

For 3700 I just felt that it was not money well spent, at least for me.

I think the system in the 650i is the premium sound for the 640iGC for $950. The standard system has less tweeters and a smaller amp. I think will order the GC with premium sound. Thanks for your help.

There are two sound upgrades, the Premium Sound which is what I've gotten, and the B&O which is the 3,700 option. The B&O is as much about asthetics as sound and you pay for it. I think you'll be more than happy with the Premium sound pkg, its got 16 speakers with DIRAC processing and 600watts of power (DIRAC was the system in Individual level Premium Sound option in my former M6 and it was great so I knew it was going to be nice and its even nicer in the GC)

good luck

This is how I want to order the 6GC

Space Gray
Black Leather
Cold Weather Package
Luxury Seating Package
Driver Assist Package
Premium Sound Package $950
Full LED lights
19' Wheels

I'm trying to trade in my 13' E550 coupe but the dealers only offering 50k and I paid 70k. Hopefully everything works out, the dealer is taking forever to send me the numbers.

Definitely want the Premium - a car at this level deserves that, and it's horrible that BMW hasn't made Premium standard on anything wearing a 6er badge. I can understand forgoing the B&O - even though I regret my decision to do so (primarily for the aesthetic reasons mentioned above) - but anything less than the Premium just doesn't seem right.

Sounds like a nice build. The only thing I say you do a bit more research on is the LED headlights. Its a very expensive option and Im not sure there is much or any value other than the 'cool' factor to say you have them. My understanding is that they are no brighter than the xenons, there is a thread on this board somewhere from someone who has them, I think on the M6 section and he felt they may actually be less bright and useful than the xenons in his experience. Its alot to spend to say you have them, and if its true they provide no better coverage, i would question the spend.

I hope your deal works out though, if you like the design in pix, you'll really love it in real life

The LED option on the 6er goes beyond aesthetics even though for most, the aesthetic appeal alone already justifies ticking the option. Having experienced halogens, hid and xenons in previous BMW's, the improvements in LED lighting is very apparent. It is not just the brightness but more importantly the quality of the illumination. What you get with LED is uniform brightness of stadium-quality color temperature that is crisp and consistent throughout the illuminated areas. All light elements within the cluster cast the same quality of light. The built-in cornering lights are discrete and appear instantaneously to illuminate left or right views which seamlessly expand the illuminated area with uniform brightness as soon as you flick your turn signals.

Look closely into the light clusters and you will see a very sophisticated design comprising of precision components, each producing a form of light to make up the entire cluster. Coupled with the generously-sized 3-LED fog lights, you get the complete package with the same quality of illumination. The combination of main, corona, accent, park, cornering and fog light elements literally allow you to sculpt your field of vision and illuminate your driving path with light controlled from within the vehicle. This effect is especially noticeable when you are on a winding road where the adaptive headlights follow your steering and speed. You get the feeling that the path ahead is an open canvas for you to paint with light.

The end result is an overall lighting design that projects a different personality for your car when operated in daytime running mode, low beams, high beams, parked or even turned off. These lights are revolutionary and are leaps and bounds above the ordinary xenon clusters. The entire appearance of your vehicle is transformed with these lights compared to the outmoded xenons. It is painfully apparent how dated the xenons look when you compare a 6er with the xenons and another with the LEDs side by side.

I could not recommend them more.

I'm not sure if you are a person or a marketing computer, but that's an amusing post regardless. Nothing to get crazy over, there is no discernible color difference between the xenons and the led fogs and I can confirm that. It's about choice and if you like yours so be it,I was just referencing another member who has them and posted the exact opposite thoughts, that they were not as bright or useful as xenons and more about a cool factor than function. But if you like them on your car, that's great and I hope you continue to enjoy the.

LOL. Real life person here and yes, I certainly do prefer the LED's on the 6er for sure. However, I do agree that the appeal may not apply to some other owners. To a large degree, most of the premium options for a 6er are emotionally driven. Ultimately, to each their own I suppose.

Having said that, I do love the B&O's as well. The aesthetic appeal and superior soundstage complete the outstanding interior of the 6er in my opinion. Once again, to each their own.

Thanks for your help. I will have to do some research on the LED lights to see if I should get them or not. If it's not any better than I could use that money on adaptive drive or just save the the money. The LED's do have a wow factor though. I used to have a 2012 CLS and the LED lights looked really nice. Unfortunately I got rid of the CLS because I was saving up for a house and thought the E550 coupe would do the trick but it definitely doesn't. I guess that's what I get for buying on impulse!

You are most welcome! The adaptive drive does improve the ride over uneven roads. Gives you and your passengers the feeling of floating over them, assuming the potholes are not too severe. You will also experience reduced roll during cornering maneuvers. Overall, you get a much more controlled and even ride.

It is a tough choice choosing between the Adaptive Drive, LED Lights and B&O. Unfortunately, none of these items can be easily retrofitted. If you have any specific questions or need close-up pictures of any of the details, feel free to ask.

I am aware it is not a very scientific approach but it sometimes help to just go with your emotions after you have done all your research and are still undecided. All the best with your selection. Do share your final configuration.

P.S. In my humble opinion, the LEDs on the 6er are way better designed than those on the CLS. Yes, I AM biased!

+1 on the emotional aspect of building a 6er. Ask almost any sane person if they'd pay $650 for some bits of ceramic on their shift lever, and I think you know the answer. Ask someone with an F12/13 if they'd do it again, I think you'd get a resounding "yes." The LEDs are amust for me, too. I love ARS and it's probably the choice that makes more sense on paper given its performance improvements, but I'd take the LEDs over ARS any day if I had to choose.

Ok I am bored, so lets do this. If you had to choose only one option (including packages) that is between $1000-$4000 what option would it be?

I am going with driver assistance package.

This is tough. It is like if you can only keep one part of your body, would you keep your eyes, ears or legs? I would endeavor to keep all of them but priority would go to eyes, followed by legs and finally ears.

1. LEDs
2. Adaptive Drive
3. B&O

Driver assist package. That's the best package IMO.

1. LEDs (I know it's shallow and superficial, but it's the truth).
2. Exec. Pkg/Nappa Dash & Ceramic Controls
3. M Sport
4. HUD

My choices are the same as Southern22............. but I will say again that here in Canada the B/O Stereo option is $6400....... a total BMW Canada rip off!! When I asked them how they could charge so much they simply said "Because we can!!!"

I originally ticked off the option list when I ordered the 650i Coupe and the pricing was based on US cars/options. I quickly deleted some when the ridiculous Canadian pricing was announced. B/O was the first to go followed by parking assist..... an $8 grand saving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
