Does anyone notice any Dead, on center steering issues with the 640 or 650i ?
I tired a 550i sedan and found that I experienced some dead on center and didn't like it at all.

I think the M6 has the hydraulic steering and does not have this issue.
So are you saying that since the 640 and 650i have electric steering that they have the dead on center as well?

My former F30 had ES and had no dead feel issues. I've just taken delivery of my 640GC and I felt no such issue either.

The 650xi gets hydraulic, and I'm very happy with my choice to go the xDrive route even though I don't really need it for its typical areas of usefulness.

I was driving it today, and I didn't have that problem. I was switching between sport and comfort mode on freeway and surface street. The steering feel was precise and very predictable regardless of the mode and speed. The feedback is very good for a GT. However, I can imagine the feedback being very synthetic on wet surface when comparing to hydraulic system. You want to be safe and slow in that condition anyway.

I really don't understand everyone's problem with electric steering. I don't understand "lack of road feel" and feeling "dead."
Your hands are on the wheel keeping the car straight and your eyes and body are confirming this. I think the problem with electric steering is lack of hand to eye coordination. My car turns so much easier than my wife's hydraulic steering X6. I really have no interest in muscling through turns in my tight parking lot. Electric Steering is very precise and I feel everything I need to on it. It's essentially fly-by-wire for aircraft which adapts to the environment. In short, I love it... Especially when coupled with Active Steering. |

So Can you tell me where it says it on either your MSRP, or Manual? I'm looking at 2012's and 2013 models... Thanks

I bet when power-steering made its debut people must've been like "wow, this thing sucks, it feels so artificial!" |
