![]() Featured on BIMMERPOST.com New BMW bulletin confirmed that 2013 M6 coupes will come equipped with a rear trunk spoiler not seen on any of the pictures or motor show cars to date. It's been added for enhanced aerodynamics. Bulletin included generated pictures of rear spoiler. Here are some real life photos thanks to DiavelM3. Should also make for an even more aggressive looking M6. Admin Edit: Added gallery with new spoiler: Compare to M6 without trunk spoiler: |

thanks for the info. let's hope the M5 problems don't filter through to the M6 (such as flawed rear coils etc)

looks better without the spoiler.
This kind of reminds of me of the fiasco with the first Audi TT's when they added the spoiler to the back, revised the rear suspension, and made quattro manditory after 25 or so of them went flying off the autobahns. I wonder if BMW came across some problematic condition that required this spoiler to be added? |

I really wish they would keep the third brake light up high in the rear glass (on all marques) and not in the metal of the trunk line. This makes it that much more difficult for aftermarket companies (or BMW themselves) to come up with creative designs for treatment of the rear spoiler, as they of course have to incorporate it.
To me the rear of the F12 is the weakest part of the car and a more robust trunk could help with that. Just imagine the E46 M3 CSL with a third brake light placed dead center in that beautifully designed bootlid. It doesn't make sense both aesthetically and even logically, you want the third brake light as high above the the standard brake lights as possible... that's the entire point. \rant

The car looks more aggressive with the spoiler when viewed directly from the rear, but from the side it really breaks up the lines of the car. It almost looks like someone pursing their lips inside out...

You typically see the third brake light in the trunk on convertibles to be visible while the top is down...so it's likely that BMW decided to use the same trunk & brake light assembly in both the coupe & convertible models to save money.

+1. If you want the rear of a Conv, buy the Conv. Why don't they move the license plate up there too like the 5-series and save some more money. Could be worse I guess; the brake light could be integrated in to the spoiler lip like those LED strips you see on the back of pickups.

The GC has the third brake light up above the rear glass, so why not the coupe? Looks like a money saving feature indeed..thats too bad i agree it kinda makes the back of the car too busy... and now with the addition of the spoiler even more.. looks completly like an after thought, disturbing the lines of the car in the rear end..i wonder if they could have implemented other more subtle desing features that could provide similar dowforce instead of just slapping this spoiler on the back and call it the day. Really dissapointing in a desing point of view that they had all this time testing the car and had to make last minutes improvisions to the car aerodynamics.

The car looks much cleaner without. The lip spoiler is an afterthought, and it shows...

looks better without. the rear deck lid has integrated spoiler as is, so adding an additional spoiler looks like too many breaks in the design. I doubt it serves any functional purpose. That thing is not generating any downforce or improving drag at all.
fail.

At lease the Alpina B6 was promoted with a spoiler right from the start, from there testing they must have realised that it need one for stability.
