Post ALL 6 Series Changes from July Production

New for all models of the BMW 6 Series: No Passing Info display.

The new function No Passing Info supplements Speed Limit Info from BMW ConnectedDrive. It serves to avoid potentially hazardous overtaking manoeuvres by identifying signposted routes on which overtaking is banned and when the ban is lifted.

New: BMW 6 Series Coupe with Auto Start Stop function.

With effect from 2012, the top model of the 6 Series Coupe, the BMW 650i xDrive, will be equipped as standard with the Auto Start Stop function. Being an integral part of BMW EfficientDynamics measures, fuel consumption will be significantly reduced as a result. The engine is automatically switched off as soon as the vehicle comes to a halt at a red light, in a traffic jam or at a level crossing, for example. When the driver releases the brake, the engine restarts automatically, allowing the journey to be continued.

UPDATED INFO:

6 Series Convertible, Coupe (F12/F13)

Technical Changes

The 6 Series Coupe and Convertible will receive technical updates that will enhance both vehicle performance and fuel efficiency:
  • N63 Technical Update for V8 TwinPower Turbo Engine (650i models only):
  • Increase to 445 hp, 480 lb-ft of torque (+45 hp, +30 lb-ft of torque)
  • Auto Start/Stop functionality (added to 650i models; already on 640i) Driving Dynamics Control with ECO PRO standard on all models.

Packages

The price of the Individual Composition Package (ZI1) has been decreased by $1,300 to $6,400 for the Coupe and $5,700 for the Convertible. 20” wheels are no longer included in the package price, but are offered as a $1,300 upgrade to the 19” wheels that are included in ZI1.

Stand-Alone Options

The following stand-alone options have been updated for the MY13 6 Series Convertible and Coupe:

Lane Departure Warning (5AD) now includes frontal collision warning
Speed Limit Info (8TH) now available in Driver Assistance Plus (ZDA)
Active Roll Stabilization (229) has been integrated into Adaptive Drive (2VA) and is no longer shown as a separate option. There is no price impact.
Full Merino Leather (ZBC8, ZBOW, ZBP5, ZBP6, and ZBWT) will no longer require ordering the Individual Composition Package (ZI1)
Individual Trim (XE8, XE5, and XE6) will no longer require ordering the Individual Composition Package (ZI1)
Individual Paint (X02, X03, X04, and X10) will no longer require ordering the Individual Composition Package (ZI1)

BMW should give us the choice of when we want to activate the Stop and Go function because it's annoying that I have to de-activate it everytime I start the car just like MB and Porsche.

I agree. Was in loaner 3 series the other day, and the shake on start-up in stop and go traffic quickly irritated me.

One feature I will not regret having as changes are made to this car.

Hi all,

New to the forum and considering a 650i coupe. Missed out on the 2012 allocations so looking at the 2013. This info is very exciting, especially the power bump. Curious , what's the source and it is reliable?

Thanks

It's direct from BMW. You can check with your dealer, who should have the same exact info.

If we already have a 2012 650i, can we get our software updated and get the power bump?

I'm not sure on this but I think the upgrade is achieved by adding valvetronic to the engine.

Honestly, I wouldn't blame you for being upset. BMW has a reputation for making changes or adding features within short time frame that can frustrate new customers. Regarding the power increase, I starting a thread a few months back inquiring about that particular update. I knew it was coming eventually since the GranCoupe info release, however, I wasn't sure when exactly.

Looks like the general consensus is to boycott BMW cars ... teach them a lesson

Audi .. No!
MB ... Another No!
Porsche ... Not even close .. No! No money.
Jaguar ... Yuks.

OK. I guess boycott will not even get off the ground. Sorry BMW ... I am back.

wow a 45 hp increase would make the 650 a completely different driving experience. I felt like the 2012 650 was a bit underpowered for it's weight.

Guys, don't go too crazy over the power bump. I know it sucks. I have a 2012 myself. In reality though, a head to head race would yield probably a three foot difference in a race.

What would be clutch is if Dinan can't do anything to the new valvetronic engine. Lol.

Man , the 2013 model will be more power and performane for sure , bmw upgrade the engine horsepower to 445 and 330kw , the new bmw will competition the new mercedes sl500 that have 429 horsepower .

So i see the 445 will put the new 6 series coupe in the top for sure .
