If you don't like them, don't buy them. It's not like they are required. Why are you guys upset about more choices?

The next time you think you know better than the engineers at Kia, much less BMW, consider pulling your head out of your ass.
Technically I will argue that point is incorrect.

Maybe it is not exactly what you meant but reading your exact words you are implying that a multi piston calliper weighs more than a single piston calliper just because it has more pistons and also you have failed to explain the other benefits.

I can show you a set of multi piston callipers that are far lighter than some single piston callipers.

There are many many more variables that you have failed to even consider or explain in your post which could be viewed as misleading.

You are painting with very broad brush strokes to make such blanket claims.

Thank you for clarifying. I would never put big brakes on an X5 or the E39 DD either. If BMW wants to sell some bling to their customers. They should have done it right from the beginning. It's just wrong to only have upgraded front calipers and single piston rear.

Those are the people I was going off on, because they drive me insane and this forum is full of them. Actual track cars absolutely need big brake kits, but I can't think of anyone who would look at a 4,000+lb, $100,000+ car and think of turning it into a track rat. If you want a track car, why start with something with so many luxuries?

On the point about BMW cheaping out so people go to Performance parts, I agree, but in a less cynical sense I would say they give us more choice. I can have the more hardcore car I want while someone else can have a car with brakes that are cheaper to replace, smaller, lighter, etc. instead of forcing every M6 buyer to have 18" carbon ceramic brakes with 10 pistons at each corner.

From the spec, the carbon ceramic is only for the front? the rear retains the steel? or they are putting a single slidding caliper with a carbon ceramic disk? if so, thats new.

I doubt it, mostly because the pads and rotors would both last past the 50K mile mark under normal use, which means if yours wore out sooner they would probably claim that your usage isn't "normal" and therefore isn't covered by Ultimate Service.

Judging from the pictures, it seems like the rear rotors are carbon ceramic as well.

THANK GOD!! There is no way I can afford a new M6 but hell even I'm happy BMW has moved to ceramic. God is real. The M6 now has proper brakes (yah I know most will never see the track but still.) Can we lose the gold paint though?

I completely agree, it's an option, not requirement. While most never will see the track, some of us still want the option. For those of us with the motorsport passion, this is the kind of stuff we cannot get enough of. I may be alone but I'd pass out with joy if BMW gave us the "delete radio/air conditioning" options. Even just to have that option would be very, very cool.

meh, I wouldn't keep the car past 4 years or 50k miles anyways.

If it were on the M3, I would think it will be abetter application.
I've seen M6 owners track their cars. I'm an M5 owner that tracks his car.

Yes, it's probably bling for most, but it's good to have that option. I'm sure it will trickle down to the new M3.

However, how many M3 owners track their cars? There are at least 20 M3's for every M6. Yes, there are plenty of M3 owners that track, but there are dozens of owners that don't track for every owner that does. So I don't think the statement about M3s is that fair either.
