650ix with M6 rear diffuser and square exhaust tip removal

I will post a quick how-to with more pictures later this week for anyone that might want to do this because this was honestly a littler harder project than I had originally thought for a regular home garage do-it-yourself like me.

The first picture is the original diffuser with the square tips. The other pictures are the result

nice. where did you get the diffuser? I was wondering how the 650 exhaust length would work with ///M diffuser. is that a 650 exhaust mounted with hangers in standard position or did you have to adjust?

That is the oem 650i exhaust.. no modification to the exhaust was needed other than cutting the square tips off. only problem is you cant just cut the two pipes out because you wont have enough space to clamp on the new tips. The vacuum flap assembly is too close.. only gives you a few inches to play with

You are right, has the Megan exhaust look but saved a lot of money! Those are just the tips.
The diffuser I got lucky and found someone who just so happened to be selling an Alpine White M6 diffuser. Every once in a while you will see a member on here sell theirs but you can get them on ebay or from bmw themselves.

Looks great and I agree, I thought it was a Megan setup at first as well!

I would never be brave enough to attempt a DIY tip replacement like that as I've got 2 left hands

Congrats...looks fantastic! You probably saved a ton of cash!

Thanks... Yea the Megan exhaust I believe is around $700 without installation..
This whole project cost me ~$80 for the round tips (can be cheaper or more expensive depending on the style and type of tip you would like to use), ~$5 for a can of black spray paint and a whole lot of nerves to take a reciprocating saw to a perfectly fine and functioning exhaust system.

where did you get that M6 diffuser from? BMW?
so to do quad setup, i have to remove the mpackage black diffuser you had in the beggining and put that M6 diffuser right? and then maybe get another carbonfiber diffuser that goes underneath it?

Correct, the black M-Sport lower diffuser has to be removed and either thrown away or sold to someone else (my experience has been that no one wants that piece so it found its way to the garbage bin)

I was really lucky however, I found a nice guy not too far from me who just so happened to be selling an Alpine White M6 rear diffuser on craigslist for pretty cheap. He had upgraded to another carbon fiber piece I believe and he had no use for this one anymore.
If you cant get that lucky they do sell them online.. I want to say that it is BMW part#51128052677. Only problem is that if you buy it online it will most likely only come primed and you will have to take it to a paint shop to get it color matched to your car, or do a completely different accent color. I would venture a guess that the piece online will cost you about $150-$250 depending on the website and you will spend another ~$150 to paint it.

The plan is to get the other carbon fiber diffuser that goes underneath that like the one Vorsteiner sells but they are really expensive; north of $2000 just for that piece uninstalled. There are some China knockoffs on ebay for half the price but I am a little leery of those.

Nice work OP, that looks great. Might have to add this mod to my next Spring's to-do list when the car comes back out of storage.
