I thought I'd give you an update from the restoration of my F12 after the car crash.

I visited the body shop thursday, talked to the guys and shot some pics.
It turns out that the chassis has no serious damage

Take a look at the picture where the guy is holding a door sill profile against the car. Notice the thickness of the steel.
This reinforced construction is special for the convertible, and is sort of replacement for the lack of roof.
It is interesting to see how the car is built. The guys at the body shop gave BMW full credit for a well built car and no cheap shortcuts in the construction.
They really enjoy working with the car.

They have wrapped all interior, dashboard etc in bubble plastic and put it aside. All new parts have arrived from Germany, and they estimated 3 weeks from now till finish.
So the baby will be home in good time before Christmas.

Superspeed, thanks for the updates - man, it's painful to see your baby stripped down to the bare bones - but I bet you can't wait to see the finished product! Best of luck!

WOW, they are really tearing your baby down to nothing ... that is crazy.

I saw your original thread when you posted it a while back. Glad to see everything is moving along.

As bad as it looks now she will be good as new very soon I can't wait to see the pics when yur car is fully restored. Btw what rental are you driving now until you get your car back?

At first I had a Volvo V70 as rental car, paid by the free rescue insurance supplied by the dealer. The present long term rental is covered of the insurance company of the bus who hit me. However they only cover the basic transportation need, meaning a cheap car. So I got a VW Polo d

I argued with my own company to have a larger car, but then I would need an extended insurance. Which I did not know about when I insured the BMW. So instead of arguing infinitely I drive my Cooper S and leave the VW in the garage. Even the Smart is more fun to drive than the rental

this's good news that there's no serious chassis damage. also, roughly 3 more weeks until completion is even better news.

Holy crap! that's some invasive surgery! Glad to hear its all coming back together though.

Thanx guys. After finishing the repair I must cure the 2 1/2 months abstinence from driving pleasure. So after Christmas you won't find me much on the forum - too many lost kms to catch up with.....
