Exclamation 2012 BMW 6-series convertible soft top & body! Optional folding hardtop available.

We bring you the first photos of the F13 6-series convertible confirming that the 2012 6-series convertible will indeed have a traditional folding soft top (but a factory fitted optional hardtop will be available). These 650 convertible photos are also the most revealing yet of the body, which loses its plastic camoflage cladding to reveal most of the production body. What's being revealed slowly is a stunning looking BMW which retains the shape and sleekness of the previous 6-series cabrio, while losing some of its more criticized design. Production of the 650 convertible will begin in March 2011.

The following info comes from Scott26:
Quote:
First shots of the 6er in FEP. Coupe is out too.
The soft-top is carried over from the E64, However as a first BMW will offer customers a factory fitted optional Folding hardtop if they desire. And of course for a few thousand euros more.
Overall appearence comes from the Gran Coupe Concept except some minor details.

Here is the BMW announced production schedule for the F12 / F13 6-series coupe and convertible.

March 2011 - 650cv
July 2011 - 650cp
September 2011 - 640cp/cv
September 2011 - 650xi cp/cv

That is not a soft top. Its designed to fool you and it looks like it did. Looks to me like a fabric cover on a hard top.

Wow, very surprising. With the 3er and the Z4 going to folding hard tops I figured the 6er surely would follow...

I wonder if this will hurt them against their competitors? Haven't they all gone to folding hard tops?

There will be a factory folding hardtop option, so we get the best of both worlds

I think the soft top looks better but the hard top definitely has its benefits.
Also, look at the old lady in the third picture, she has no idea whats going on!

well if they offer a hard top option it better have the same shape as the soft top or else its going to look as ugly as the E93 which already looks like a chrysler sebring

Looks subtle so far. Not sure how i feel about that body line near the front fenders, almost makes it look like its dented.

I'm not feeling the extended C-pillar aspect at the rear of the top and the vertical recessed rear window.

I guess that allows for a separate glass rear window which can be raised as a wind blocker with the top down.

Softtops on large luxury coupes are still the way to go. Look at high-end luxury coupes all the way up to Bentley and Rolls Royce. Soft tops. Softtops/ragtops are just the way to go for classy cars. I'd also imagine the extra size of the top of a big coupe is mechanically large and too complex to fit in the hatch. The car's lines will flow better and look much more elegant if the top is kept to a simple ragtop. End of thread.

dont love the gaping front maw or the black plastic trim at the base of the soft top what is that camo or is it going to have that?

this looks like a slight facelift of the current car... the current one has presence this one looks boring... especially in beige.
