Would love to have seen this on the E60 M5/E63 M6 when I still owned one. Very cool, nonetheless! The last of the great M cars.

If you understand French.

This one is also from the E60 M5/E63 M6 & E9X M3 era. General information about the processes, facilities, etc. in the making of M-cars

Love these videos!

With how the car is assembled from 3D imaging/scanning to the use of robots, you wonder how some owners can still get defects in their cars like panel gaps, wind noises and creaking when the process is implemented to avoid them.

Robots cannot feel. That's the problem.

Robots can't but the humans who are measuring exterior panels with callipers should be able to inspect and I guess that's the problem - human error. Of course nothings going to be perfect but it's just an overall observation of how advance car manufacturing is but we still get small/insignificant defects and faults.

Not really an apples/apples comparison and not comparing Rolls Royce's to BMW's but we don't see these issues with Rolls Royce's and they use more human labour to assemble than BMW factories do.

I recently caught that episode on TV during a marathon of super car episodes. The Ferrari factory is by far the most impressive. Their combination of old world craftsmanship and tech is really interesting. It's definitely one of my favorite series.

Good ole' fashion human error. If Jim has a bad day and doesn't care to much about making sure that gap he measured is spot on, or if Bob with the fancy cotton glove-thing misses a defect because he didn't get enough sleep, then there you have it.

I'm pretty sure BMW accounts for the error margin for each price market, after all... it is a CHEAPER car than a Rolls Royce.

100% correct but it's not like Rolls Royce's are built that much differently from BMW's. A Rolls Royce factory worker might check a panel gap 10 times and a BMW factory worker might do it 5 times but the labour itself isn't that much more intensive where a BMW worker couldn't do.

I guess what I'm saying is that auto manufacturing has got so advanced where robots do most of the work it shouldn't be hard for labour workers to ensure the rest of manufacturing is perfect. Yeah a M6 is $120k and a Ghost is $300k but is it unreasonable for a BMW worker to check panel gaps 5 more times even if the car is a $180k less expensive?

My posts are just nitpicking the small things but when you look at these videos, whether it be MINI, BMW or Rolls Royce, the bulk of manufacturing is pretty much the same but it's interesting that something as simple as tightening a screw in a MINI, BMW and a Rolls Royce can be so different, that is my MINI is a creaking machine that I have to go in and retighten /adjust screws, BMW's have the same problem to a lesser extent and Rolls Royce doesn't seem to have any problem.

STOP! Only 1:30 into the video! Did he say 'Fuel Economy?' How silly.
Did he say the chassis handles 'high speeds in ANY weather?' OMG, SOMEBODY IS SO IN THE TANK. Sure, I will drive this in snow and ice. And I will reserve a hospital ICU room number in advance.
Honestly, the engineering is very beautiful.
I wer my shorts higher, though. And I have STEEL BALL BEARINGS.
I Love it all, guys!

I totally agree.. mine came from the factory with paint defects on the back of the car. It looks like over spray of some chemical that ate into the clear coat and into the plastic on the rear brake lights. Only noticeable from closeup thank goodness. Also found a small rock embedded in the clear coat of the cup holder cover. When you pay $140K for their flagship car you should think their QC would be better!!
