Older M6s with knob envy

I have a 2013 with the old, small iDrive knob. A cheap fix I just discovered is a larger knob that slides on top. Easy to install and works well so far.

Looks nice! I purchased a cheap overlay knob a few weeks back, too, but haven't installed it yet.

Question(s):
  • Did you remove the original black cap, and if so, how?
  • Do you have a large gap between the bottom of the wheel and the base?
  • Can you take a side picture?

Thanks!
Leo.

Yeah, that's the same one I picked up.
When I was test-fitting the wheel over the existing piece, I would always end up with a large gap at the base, though... Maybe I just need to play with it some more.

Wasn't able to easily pop-up the original cap, either. Will try again (gently) this weekend.

Thanks for the answers. Looks really nice.
Leo.

Oh, ok then.
That's how my test-fit looked, so glad to see it's good.

Thanks!

Always curious about this. You imagine it'd fit on an e60 528i right? Same type of small knob.

How close is it, in terms of feel & quality & lighting, to the original knob?

Yes
You can attach a big knob to your E60 (CIC)

Seems mostly the same except when navigating a long list (like a long playlist), then if you rush it feels weird (though no actual effect). I turn slower now. Press and slide feel the same. have not seen what it looks like at night yet.

Also in the top picks it looks scratched, its not, just hadn't peeled off the plastic protective cover.

Installed mine this weekend.
Looks and feels like the OEM piece, but it acts a bit smoother than before. I used to feel a solid "click" whenever turning the knob, and that's somewhat gone now.

Still works 100%, and looks much better, in my opinion, so I guess it's just a matter of getting used to it.

Thanks again for the pics and help.
Leo.

I've seen night pics. I seriously can't decide which one I want
The standard, iconic arrows, the arrows + cool M (even though I don't drive one), or the unique crosshairs...

Looks fantastic mate! I just ordered mine, the crosshairs, yesterday and should get it soon. Reason I did was because my original small knob has a tiny peel on it. Such a small, virtually unnoticeable thing infuriated me to spend $20 in fixing it haha
