How often do you use proper manual mode?
This is a really important topic for me as I remain confused about my driving love or potentially lack of for my M6GC. I feel like I miss the clutch and stick engagement of a proper manual and that taking the clutch away isnt the same.
I feel like my M6 isnt as enaging to drive if it was a manual. But then I havent given it much of a chance as I reckon I only try the paddles 1% of the time. I dont know why. Dont know if its because the lazy option of full auto is always there? Thoughts please? How often are you on full manual? As a side note these cars have so many config options between throttle, ESP and the DCT settings I dont even know if I have found my M button sweet spot and that may be part of the issue. |

I never use auto. paddle all the time for me!
auto annoys me because it can't predict the road ahead. i just feel in better control using manual. At first i thought i would miss the clutch but the dct is awesome and i don't know how i would cope without it. as for config as soon as i start up i hit M2 which turns traction off (engages MDM?) steering is comfort, suspension comfort and throttle in sport plus and shift on the most aggressive setting. If the roads are quiet and there is an opportunity for some 'sporty' driving il put the suspension on the hardest setting. i can't help thinking those who drive in auto are missing out on what makes the car great, and driving in the standard startup mode (efficient etc) even more so. If thats you, asks yourself why you went for an M6 over a 640d or something. |

I am 99% of the time in manual shifting mode. Only way to ensure that I can fart as loudly as possible.

99% of the time. Every time I sit down in the car I hit M2 (Steering: Sport Plus, Suspension: Sport, Throttle: Sport Plus) and manual shifting position 3 (most aggressive). The only time I use auto mode is if I"m stuck in stop and go traffic for a while, which thankfully is rare.
I've come to love the DCT paddle shifters. Instant shifts and perfect rev matching. Big fan! |

Thats made my day reading the above. Clearly I need to treat the car like it doesn't have an auto mode and go on the pedals more!
I wish startup mode could be configured so the car is always in sport throttle at least. Can that be coded do you know? |

I came from an M3 which always started in manual mode. I simply pull as soon as I back out of the driveway. I am always in 3 as well.
After driving a dct daily for a few years I went back to a manual BMW and within six months I switched back to dct. I actually prefer it now.

Not sporty in Auto
Sport plus setting three auto will keep car in third and fourth from 70-130 mph quite easily and will show how the engine likes to perform, how sporty does it need to be. 2 buttons to configure how you want it set up as well, starts in efficient, set one to sport and the other to sport plus.Is it really that hard to press a button |

In traffic, I use the M1 setting in my M6 in full auto, with sport suspension and increased throttle response, so the car is more responsive. What I like about MDCT, as compared to a automatic transmission, is that the car does not feel like the torque converter is acting as a parasite on the transmission. The paddle shifters are great for twisty roads, or the track, but not in traffic or highway travel. |

I used to be a little confused but once you find the right settings manual is actually preferable at lower speeds for me now. Having fitted decat DPs and a full Akro I like to drive around town etc in manual if only for the sound. The key I found was to leave the engine made in is softest so that your not kangerooing about at times with a sensitive throttle. Also pulling away briskly you can short shift into 2nd to save rocketing off and looking an idiot as in auto mode it holds the gears longer just in case your gonna go for it.
Just have a play and relax when using manual, it should jell with you more then. Failing that just nail it as its so much fun either way anyhow! |

it's about 50/50 for me. sometimes I prefer the shifter instead of the paddles, maybe it's the clicking sound??. but I have M1 as my most aggressive setting with everything, and m2 less aggressive. it seems more logical for me at least to have m1 as my most aggressive.. am I the only one

+1 always manual mode, even in traffic, and in the most aggresive mode (3), but i use the stick to shift more than the paddles overall.
I find the paddles a bit too "playstation" like, why can't they give us proper paddles fixed to the column instead of stupid ones that move with the wheel? That was (one of many) hates I had for my AMG E63 - no stick! |

Honestly I prefer the moving with the wheel paddles in most cases. Being able to shift in a turn without releasing the wheel is a VERY nice feature. (granted, once you get off your 10-2 positions and rotated the wheel further then you've lost all bearing - but you probably shouldn't be shifting if you're turning that hard, DCT is good but the laws of physics still apply).

I'm like in between where I sometimes feel the paddle shouldn't move and sometimes like how it moves with the wheel..
