M5 London: My bad, read it the other way around. It does add to the confusion.

Adding a quarter every 350 mils is not normal but for your reference I add a quarter almost every 1000-1500 miles and I drive my car the way M car is meant to be driven

From my BMW Parts guy who has previously supplied me with bits for all of my other ///M cars :

All well here thankyou, hope you can say the same.
It's actually this one we keep now '83212365929' priced at £15.56 per 1litre bottle to yourself.
LL04 0w30 only available from BMW dealers but made by Shell.
As you may be aware, BMW left Castrol for Shell due to their breakthrough gas-to-liquid technology.

Update:

Since the oil change as part of the investigation, I have just come back from Europe, 1200 miles round robin trip. The car since oil change/refill has done 1467 miles before the oil message popped up. Will book the car in for oil measure whereby they actually weigh up the oil.
I'm not sure how much of oil is actually consumed before it hits the minimum sensor? perhaps 2 litres?
One more problem I also been facing since purchased the car is the vibration in the steering at speeds over 100mph. I had the dealer look at it, they did the tracking but the problem still persists.

Well at least the oil consumption is moving in the right direction and by a factor of 4 !

Having said that motorway runs generally exhibit much lower oil consumption than stop start town driving....

I must thank all you guys for your input and help.

I need to write up a separate post for the vibration issue which has been there since I purchased the vehicle.

Sounds very much like it to me.

Hi Mate

I have already done the balancing and tracking twice. Could be a bent alloy I suspect.

Is it all the time or at braking? any specific speed?
I had the same issue and they replaced the rotors. Problem fixed for couple months and came back again... n that much but mine happened at speed over 80 mph while I slam on brake pedal

It is my daily driver. I always run in manual mode with dct set to three bars. My commute is 22 miles one way, with 2 miles at 45, 13 at 55-60, 6 at 70-80 and 1 at 30. I tend to drive relaxed most days, shifting at 3-4k in comfort mode. I use M2 occasionally, with sport plus set except steering.

BMW, N.A. has agreed to have dealership check out my car regarding the oil issue. Will take in next week and report what they state.

MJ POSNER : this is what they did, simple thing, changed the entire oil with correct grade and new oil filter. Since then I have driven across 3 countries before it asked for top up. 1500 miles without top up.

IM6, I had the oil changed at 32k miles. Now at 39k miles. The funny thing is per the Service Bulletin: "Due to the increased engine power, all Motorsport engines can consume up to 2.5 quarts of engine oil per 1,000 miles at any time." Based on that they can say my car is normal at 650-700 miles per quart.

that's ridiculous and certainly abnormal.

Ive been told the tolerance is 1.5 ltres per 1000 miles. not 2.5!

Day 4 and still no word on my car. I wonder if they found something that was causing the oil use. I got a cryptic "maybe" for pick up today.

Good luck with the car, my car is being worked on for the last 3 days relating to the vibration issue. The dealer has been beyond my expectations and has gone out of its way to change the entire suspension components such as struts, lower suspension arm, wishbone. it is a long job. they have even authorised a free KDS which alone is £250.

Nothing better than picking up the car on Friday evening after work

Picked up my car today, they want me to keep track of oil consumption and not add any oil. They will then see what BMW N.A. wants to do.
