self wash M6GC

I have been taking my wife's car and my old car to local detail shop but after a week all of the swiral marks come back. they have told me that they will place another layer of wax but not want to risk taking my car to them.
So... I was thinking about washing it myself, any advise on washing would be greatly appreciated while I look for another shop.

Wax just hides the swirl marks. If you want them taken out, your car needs a polish at the minimum.

Here's mine being worked on by Meguiar's. 5.5 hours of prep, polish, and wax, but it's better than anything coming from the factory.

Yes, you will need to polish it. I've had my black M6 polished 3 times already because I am VERY picky when it comes to swirl marks -- it's usually 5-6 hour process. I have used several ceramic coatings and the best I have found is called BEEDS (http://beeds.com.sg/home/the-wonders...ceramic-paint/). I have 3 coats of BEEDS on my M6 and it sure does make a difference in keeping the car looking smooth and swirl mark free.

Additionally, you cannot take it to a car wash that does NOT hand wash it. If you take it through the wash-chute that has the flappers that beat on your car you are going to get swirl marks. I hand wash my car myself every single time.

A good polishing job and several coats of your favorite ceramic protection and it will shine like a diamond in a goats ass!

Here is my car (in progress) with my detail guy. This was a ~20 hour project... Inside, outside, under carriage, wheel well, engine bay, 100% complete detail. The car was just insane when it was done!

Your car looks like it is completely made out of glass. Beautiful machine.

Your detail guy is awesome.

I think when we purchase a black vehicle we make the decision to live with a certain amount of swirls. even hand washes will produce a certain amount of swirls with those harder sham towels they use to initially get the majority of water off of the car. they usually finish up with the microfiber towels. those would be harmless assuming their clean. I've seen them fall on the ground and then get picked up only to continue cleaning cars.

I had a black 5 series and swore never to get another black vehicle. even though when it was clean looked like the best color ever. that was the case for all of 20 minutes before the dust came on it and ruined my afternoon every saturday for years.
I think it's the nature of the beast with black. it's a love hate relationship. I had the choice of a black m6gc that was 15k cheaper than my san merino. it was a no brainer. i don't miss the agony .

one thing I will mention is that if u wash ur car and dry it with a microfiber towel....spray some Turtle wax ice on the vehicle as u dry it. I have found this helps repel some dust for a few more days. again, this theory may not apply to ur black vehicle

Smile Prevent swirl marks...

I had a 2007 jet black 650i and had to live with the swirl marks and small scratches mainly because I never had the time to take the car to a detailer and I always wiped the dirt off of it.
Now that I have my 2016 black sapphire metallic M6 I mitigated that issue by wrapping it with Xpel Ultimate paint protectant film (PPF) that self heals if it gets scratched. Experienced the 'self healing' when I had some bird s*** sit on the front hood of the car and bake in the hot Florida sun for a couple hours. After wiping it off I could see where it deformed the PPF (most likely would have eaten into the clear coat w/o PPF). After a day in the sun the deformation disappeared!
In any case, there is even better PPF coming out in the near future that will be crystal clear gloss and have the same self healing properties. Hopefully this stuff will be as good as the gloss look of polished paint, eliminating any orange peel. Only time will tell.
