New 6M owner
New M6 competition package owner here. Transferring from the M4 side of things.
Grabbed a bad gear in the 4 and hurt the motor. Not ashamed but still upset over the first missed shift I can recall in 35 years of manual tranny's. A bit about the car: 2015 black sapphire metallic full merino extended leather and every box checked on the order option sheet except ceramic brakes. A quick summary that I posted on the M4 forum follows: Thanks for the advice!! This car is simply amazing. Thought I'd give a quick (relatively) comparison review b/w the M4 and the M6 with competition package after my first 200 miles consisting of parkway twisties and highway miles. Handling: where the 4 is nimble and light on its feet and one can really feel by the seat of the pants where the car is and how it's connected to the road; the 6 is less conveying of that but still communicates in a precise manner. It's body weight tends to want to initially push into the corners and that has to be anticipated. The 4 is easy to correct and induce overrsteer with the throttle and exit slip angles are readily adjusted. The 6 has a big moment of inertia based on its mass and is not as apt to break away with throttle for correction and has to be thrown into it a little while staying above 3K rpm's else it will plow its way and end up tracking very wide. But the competition package is supposed to be more responsive than the base 6M; I'll report back any findings as I get more into the performance of this beast. Have not messed with the paddles yet as I've got too many parameters to gain confidence with proprioceptively speaking before I can add that component into the equation. I am sure it will be exciting and rewarding. Throttle response: where the 4 has essentially dialed out all essence of lag and then rockets onward as one would expect; the 6 likes to take a huge gulp of air and then holding on tightly is probably a good idea. 575 hp results in a shockingly smooth and steady launch to escape velocity and its cabin quietness fools one into thinking that you're going slower than the speedo indicates. Triple digits are where this thing wants to cruise with little or no effort, seemingly hugging the road as the aerodynamics come into play. Interior: simply splendid. The extended full Marino black leather completely coats every surface and is flawless. The alcantera head liner and wrapped A pillars is perfect. The standard HK sound system sounds better in the 6 and I'm thinking it has more sound insulation and the lack of induced motor sounds in the cabin result in better acoustics. The 4 tended to drown out the sounds as we all know. Exhaust note: some have said they were annoyed by the angry leaf blower sound of the 4 on start up. It didn't bother me. But the 6 has this deep rumble with a nasty little rasp coming out of its black chrome exhaust that is smile inducing and satisfying. On acceleration; the 6 lets out an angry refined roar that lets you know that there is a monster lurking under the bonnet! Exterior looks: I loved the shape and symmetry of the 4 and its transition from smooth lines to a carved angularity. The 6 has this same artwork embedded in its sheet metal with an even more aggressive front end and the quad pipes out the back combined with the sport spoiler makes it just nave a bit more menacing stance. Lack of shifter: I took some good ribbing from you guys about a missed shift. One in a lifetime thing; I hope. I am not sure the 6 is a good place for the 6M tranny. So much mass to control at speed would best managed with both hands on the wheel and letting the paddles and DCT do their job. I still have a 1/2 dozen manual cars to play with in that regard, but the 6 and DCT seems like a good matchup for practicality and fun. I'll report more as the experiences grow. I'll already miss my 4. That is still the meanest little F'er I've owned yet. I'll eventually get one of the used market and put a cage in it, strip it and do all the mods necessary to get it into maybe a NASA type of race class. That should be fun. Appreciate The write up! I'm considering getting one (m4) for the gf, and she handles the M6 (mt) pretty well! But it's nice to read someone who's had both

The 4 is a little monster and in the wrong (inexperienced hands) can get one into trouble quickly, as it breaks loose at every deep stab of the throttle. ( I person love that aspect) |
