Brake pads

Right warning came on the other day telling me that I've got 1000miles left in the brake pads on the rear and the fronts will need doing be not long after that.

Pad prices look a bit bonkers for OEM £500+ for the fronts apparently. Textar were great in my E92 as they were the OEM supplier, do we know who supplies the 5/6 series pads?

Had my front & rear brakes done for a pretty reasonable £467 the other week. Maybe take it to the dealer to have it checked ?

Not sure where you are getting those prices from...for the 640D the OEM front pads (excluding brake pad wear sensor & retaining spring) are part number: 34116851269 approx £208

BMW direct ebay:
pads: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Genuin...-/171403271867
Front Sensor: £30 each http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Genuin...-/190704714336
Clip: part number 34116786819 unknown cost.

rear pads - excluding sensor etc.
Part number: 34216775346 £118.71
Pads: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Genuin...-/191174605376
Rear Sensor: £28.66 each http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Genuin...-/170880810566

If you get a BMW dealer to do it they are the same as the 535D:
based on bmw's online service cost tool, the pads on the front are £297 +£19 scoping charge - £316, rears £213 + £19 scoping charge

I just had EBC Redstuff fitted yesterday. I can't recall exact prices, about £200 for the pads, and it would have been £120 for fitting. I chose these for the possibility of less dust. Once the wheels have been cleaned (if it ever stops raining) I'll be bale to tell if they are an improvement.

Thanks guys I'll have another look.

Its a simple enough job so I'll be doing the spanner work myself with this one.

6Coupe all the tea in China won't make me touch redstuff pads again. I found they needed to be kept warm which was fine for fast road/spirited driving (I believe as 6'er owners we do the later), but at lower town speeds they were wooden, lacked bite and were downright dangerous when cold. That was however on a Leon FR150 TDI so the extra weight of the 6'er may help but its not one I'm going to try in a hurry.

That's spot on for the rears. Bmw changed mine on Monday and it was £232.

Not done much spirited driving since having them fitted but they work well cold and in traffic, no issues with bite, and feel very similar to the pads that came off in terms of pedal feel and pressure needed. Happy so far, hoping to see a reduction in brake dust!

Wheels are looking cleaner than they would have before the Redstuff pads. They do work from cold like oem, but there is noticeable improvement after the first few brake pedal applications per drive, as the pads warm up. So far, so good.
