At what point is it too late to get a F06/F12/F13?
So going off of: http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=901686 , the new 6 series (perhaps called the 8 series as per the rumors) will be coming out around the beginning of 2019 as a 2020 model. That's still a bit a ways off, but makes you wonder if its worth shelling out 100 large for a 6 when the new one will be here before the next olympics I was considering getting a 6GC, but kinda hesitant now seeing how soon the next one will be.
Also, if the new one will be called the 8 series, maybe the current gen will become more timeless as the "last 6". Regardless, the next gen will bring a whole lot of new tech and more powerful yet efficient engines as seen in the 7 and upcoming G30 5, so it will also have its own worth in waiting. Will the 6 hold its worth and be a good investment to buy right now, and if so, how long do you guys think the window to buy wisely is? Maybe until the middle of 2017? |

That being said, you could find some great deals on slightly used ones, or new 2016's. |

you dont buy big BMW's as investments they loose so much money, why dont you just buy one now and in a few years chop it in for a new version and have best of both worlds.

I got almost 25% off list on a loaded 2016 GC w/6700 mi. Add a decent residual, rolling my MSDs and I'm not paying much more than I would have for a new loaded 3er. The car is awesome, though had I paid $3500 for the B&O sound, I'd be quite unhappy.
Reality is that I may never lease a brand new car again.

The thing I meant by "value" is just being able to love the car day in and day out regardless of how many years "old" it is. A Porsche 911 is a prime example of this. I don't think anybody with any gen of 911 (except maybe the 996) regrets what's in their garage ever. BMW typically nails this pretty well (nearly every gen of any given model holds its own), but for example, Mercedes seems to make every new gen in an attempt to harshly out date the previous generations. Not many late model MB's look or feel interesting 10 or more years on. I would also definitely be interested in owning it to around the 100k miles/10ish years mark if possible. So then reliability also comes into question. |

Just keep trolling the local dealers' websites. That's how I did it. Checked about 25 local dealers each week.

So, the rumors indicate that the 8-series will be the same type of car as the current 6, but the 6 name will be transferred to a completely new model that's a grand touring sports car - think Porsche 911, Mercedes AMG GT, or Jaguar F-Type competitor. So then on the same note that the current 6 could be the "last (real) 6", then there is the hesitation to buy one for the long term as the name would start being associated with the hot new sports car on the block, and as the 8 would start being viewed as the better BMW luxury touring coupe. All of these weigh into the thread's question, "At what point is it too late to get a F06/F12/F13?" haha. Also, is the N63 really reliable enough to keep pushing to and past the 100k miles mark? |
