I've heard of a number of guys going with 1 piece instead of 3 piece these days, I always thought 3 piece was a better wheel although I didn't really know why. Is there a benefit to the 1 piece?

Single Piece is always the best way to go as far as strength, performance and weight.. but a good triple piece can be just as strong. Things to consider with triple piece wheels are the separate pieces that have to be put together to form the wheel and the bolts used to secure those pieces as well as the sealant used to keep the pieces nice and air tight. Being that the triple piece wheels have all these factors to consider there is more room for errors or things that can go wrong which would compromise the wheels integrity. Triple piece wheels are always heavier than their single piece counter parts with the exception of a few. On the plus side triple piece wheels offer a wider array of custom options and unique designs which single piece wheels can't pull off. Nowadays triple piece wheels are a lot better than they used to be so you don't have to worry about a whole lot as long as you buy from a reputable company that has good quality control over their products. I like triple piece wheels mostly because of the lips you can have which you can't get with single piece.. Single piece have a tendency of looking conservative or OEM like so if you are spending a lot of money to not look custom then maybe you are better off staying stock or buying a triple piece wheel that will give you more of a custom look... not to say that single piece wheels can't give you a custom look.. its just a lot of them look conservative even if they are designed not to be. Hope this helps.

What Hunter said, plus 3 piece are less expensive to produce. Creates a bit of a conflict these days since 3 piece are getting closer to strength and weight. P101's with a custom finish, which I think satan black is, somewhere around 10K, but in terms of performance not a lot that will touch them.

The wheels are beautiful, and not just in looks.

BJayfan the 3 piece wheels are more expensive to produce. The one piece wheels are machined solid from the get go. The three piece have labor to assemble and additional hardware. Same reason why list price of HRE 1 piece is usually $300-$600 less than the 3 piece. However monoblocks can weigh less and tend to be stronger because of the minimal lip. I own the S101s and I know the P101s are similar in weight, slightly different look and less concave, and also quite a bit cheaper as well. My last set was HRE monoblocks but I wanted to try something different and went with a three piece this time.

Noushy meister, you have a nice set of wheels but your Intel is off. The S101's aren't more concave then the P101's and they weigh more than the P101's approximately 4-5lbs more and there are various levels of concavity you can order the P series in. The P series is HRE's newest high performance line and they cost the same as the triple piece S series.. Relax or I'm going to drive to your house.

Hunter they offered me $1700 a piece for the p101 and $2100 for the s101 per HRE and my dealer. Finishes and titanium hardware extra. Also told per rep that the extreme concavity only available via 3 piece. But this can be a discussion for another time. As with anyone spending $8k plus for wheels we can afford any of the ones we like. And their top of the line is the CF2 version of the S101. Look it up my friend now I have to go back to seeing patients

Thankfully I'm more than several hundred miles from both of you.

HRE quoted me $2,300 per wheel (two days ago) for the P101's, the custom finishes were $250 per wheel. I know you can do better through a dealer, both of you are closer to me than their nearest dealer.

I don't know if you got your wheel prices reversed, someone is playing games with what they have (or don't), or if they're trying to build in shipping. I'll call again tomorrow and get S pricing.

I have zero experience with 3 piece wheels, but I've probably been putting wheels on cars a bit longer. Perhaps 3 piece have come further than I know, but then weight and strength have always been a priority for me. So long as they look OK, I'm happiest to reduce the unsprung.

There is quite a bit of markup on my S101s. My 20s listed for $2400 plus $100 per wheel to have the inner barrels black satin. The exterior finishes are included unless you do custom colors. Titanium fasteners are $1000 per wheel and drop one pound each wheel. My dealer paid $1840 or so and charged me $2100 as a returning customer (7th set of HRE wheels). I paid for the sensors and tax as well.

Peace
Noushy

Wheels weights officially from HRE for the F12/F13 20 inch fitments are 26/27lb front and rear for the three piece and 22/24lb for the one piece. Obviously 21 inchers weigh more and using titanium fasteners drop one pound on the three piece.

Enjoy,
Noushy

Damn noushy, you've got some heavy ass wheels. 21" P101s are rated at 21-23lbs depending on width size.
