Connected drive (ELI5)

Hi, ELI5 (explain like im 5 years old )
Ive just parted with £70 for a 6 month experience of connected drive, this is my 1st BMW, 2012 640D. ive no idea what to expect but after making the transaction ive yet to see anything different on the car interface,
so i would be grateful for a little explanation of what it is and what i just spent £70 on
maybe i have to wait as the purchase was today (sunday) just guessing.

You get all the things an iphone can do ... 😂 Tbh i looked at the online pack and didnt bother

So I have to have an iPhone (which I don't) and then connect it to the car via USB?
