Tapping power on rearview mirror for radar detector

Has anyone tapped into the auto dimming rear view mirror to use as a power source for my radar? I purchased the mirrortap wire to use with my Escort Maxx. If so, anyone know how to pop off the mirror wire cover on the windshield?

Thanks all

It's hard to get in there. I just ran the power from a switched fuse tap behind the glove box, up the A-pillar (behind the trim) and under the headliner to the detector. Made more sense for me regardless, since I have a remote display (V1) that shares wiring.

I'd like to know as well. It would be by far the cleanest method. It's too bad manufacturers don't give a standard connection in the back of the mirror for these kinds of things.

the black mirror surround simply pops apart outward.
The plug lower down in the mirror has the power and ground. I don't remember offhand, so I may need to open it up tonight to see, but the ground was brown and the power was the green IIRC (i checked with a probe).
hooked my v1 up like this and works perfect

Anyone have pictures of how to do this or recommend an installer in NJ or NYC?

My passport 9500 is integrated, so I know it's possible... No clue how the shop did it though.

Too much work. I just grabbed the extention cable and ran it from the arm rest cigarete lighter, under the carpet, under the trim around the door, and under the headliner.

You are correct ... I just pulled wring diagrams from ProDemand.com and the 12v+ is a Green Wire with Brown Stripe
GND is a Brown Wire with Black Stripe
